W180 is the chassis code used as the designation for Mercedes-Benz's 220a and 220s models. The 220a models were given the title of 'W180 1' and the 220s were named 'W180 2'. This then refers to the models from the years 1954 to 1959. There were 3 versions of it available; the coupé, convertible and lastly, the relevant sedan. All of these models were equipped with a 6-cylinder. The two 2s in '220s' can be seen as the displacement. This is because the engine block consists of a 2.2-litre in-line six-cylinder. The first versions produced around 100hp, but later the use of 2 carburettors made it produce 6hp more. Until the end of production in Oct 1959, a total of some 55,279 saloon models were produced.

If you are looking for a beautiful and original documented model, you have come to the right place. This is a beautiful 220S from the year 1958. It is finished in a dark blue paintwork opposite a similar dark blue interior. For its age, it is in fine condition. From the bodywork to the interior. The seat upholstery is a combination of light blue/grey and dark blue, along with a grey headliner. The iconic 13-inch hubcaps also complete the look. The chrome is neat and adds nice details to the car.

This example was originally delivered on 3/12/1958 to Mr Wilhelm Grahn in Umeå Sweden. The following dates of counter readings including date and place could be retrieved from the original service booklet:

As can be seen above, servicing over the years has mainly taken place at Umeå Bilcentrum in Umeå Sweden. At the time, this was a car dealer specialising in Mercedes-Benz, DKW, Simca and Audi.

Over the years, the Mercedes-Benz has always been well looked after. Every year servicing, inspections and everything around it that was needed. In 1985, the W180's paintwork was fully addressed and perfected. In 2000, it was fitted with a new galvanised exhaust system. Apart from this, other various things were done such as replacing the fabric of the driver's seat and driver's side door panel. This was done with original fabric to keep the condition as pure as possible. New shock absorbers, replacing rubbers, and more parts were replaced. It still covered 1,000+/- kilometres every year until 2005 to maintain its technical condition. The car has always been in a heated garage at times when it was not driving. Therefore, the odometer currently reads only 4,656. But this then adds up to a total original mileage of 104,656. On 2 January 2006, the Mercedes-Benz was first registered on Dutch plates after being exported from Stockholm. Since then, it has always been in Dutch ownership. In 2019, major maintenance was carried out at the Mercedes-Benz classic car specialist worth approximately €7,800.

The 2.2-litre inline-six cylinder engine runs smoothly and the manual gearbox shifts smoothly.

In terms of documentation, several papers are available. Besides the service booklet already mentioned, there is an original owner's manual. This comes along with various invoices, inspections and registration papers.

In short, a well-maintained and cared-for Mercedes-Benz 220S which, with its original documentation, is a proud possession!
