*Porsche 914: The Forgotten Hero from Stuttgart*
Some cars fall between the cracks. Too unconventional for some, too brilliant for others. But once you get it, you really get it. That’s when you realize why the Porsche 914 has become a true cult classic.
Arguably the most rebellious Porsche ever built, the 914 was born in 1969 out of an unusual partnership between Volkswagen and Porsche. A joint venture, no less. VW needed a sporty successor to the Karmann Ghia, while Porsche was looking to fill the gap left by the outgoing 912. The result? The 914—with a mid-engine layout and removable Targa roof. A truly unique machine.
*Restored, Refined, and in Excellent Condition*
This particular example is in stunning condition—beautifully restored and properly overhauled. We’re talking about a 914 with sharp body panel alignment, refined detailing, high-quality paintwork, and an interior that matches the exterior in excellence. Have you seen the photos on our website? They speak volumes. Everything feels just right—from the immaculate instrument cluster to the pristine upholstery and carpets. It’s clear this was a restoration done by experts who know what they’re doing.
And driving it? It’s everything you hope it would be. This is a six-cylinder Porsche, after all. Fire up that flat-six engine, and you immediately feel the precision. Smooth power delivery, a crisp clutch, and confident handling—thanks in large part to the mechanical rebuild, this 914 drives exceptionally well.
*Volkswagen-Porsche, or Simply Porsche?*
In Europe, it was sold through VW dealers as the “Volkswagen-Porsche 914.” In the U.S., it was just “Porsche.” A clever bit of marketing—American buyers wanted a real Porsche, not a Volkswagen with sporty aspirations. So Porsche gave the 914/6 its own badge and a proper price tag. So proper, in fact, that it nearly matched the cost of a 911.
Most 914s were fitted with air-cooled flat-fours from the VW Type 4, but later versions got a more powerful 2.0-liter unit—which made the lightweight coupe surprisingly quick.
*Design: Angular, Bold, and Purposeful*
It might take a second glance to fully appreciate, but look closely. The low-slung stance, the wide-set pop-up headlights, the removable Targa top—it’s pure genius. Form follows function here. With the mid-engine layout, the 914 delivers near-perfect weight distribution. That translates to go-kart-like handling. No joke.
Back in the day, it was often overlooked. But now? The 914 is the understated legend among Porsche’s louder siblings. No longer the brand’s underdog, it’s light, playful, rare, and a true driver’s car. And the design? It’s aged into full-blown retro cool. Especially the 914/6 with its flat-six—now highly sought after and quickly rising in value. And this example, with its outstanding condition, is one of the finest you’ll find.
