Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Nuova Super “Restored by Alfisti”
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of those cars that looks very simple on paper. Four doors, a compact body, relatively modest engine displacement, and enough room to simply drive it to the office. But at Alfa Romeo, “ordinary” in the 1960s and 1970s was rarely truly ordinary. The Giulia was a sports sedan before that term was attached to just about everything. Light, lively, sharp, and powered by an engine that feels far more enthusiastic than its displacement might suggest. This Giulia 1300 Nuova Super dates from 1975 and belongs to the later evolution of the famous 105 Series. The Nuova Super received, among other things, the recognizable black grille and a flatter trunk lid, but retained the character that made the Giulia so beloved. At first glance, the body may appear angular and functional, but it was developed with a surprising amount of care. Thanks to intelligent engineering, the Giulia achieved remarkably favorable aerodynamics for its time. Alfa Romeo even managed to give a four-door sedan something clever and sporting. Under the hood is the 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts. A true Alfa engine. Not large, but eager, light on its feet, and full of character. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it gives this Alfa exactly the right personality. This is not a car that tries to impress with brute force. And that is precisely where the magic of a Giulia lies. It does not need a large engine to feel alive. The steering, the seating position, the way the body responds, and the willingness of the engine to rev all come together to create an experience that is surprisingly addictive. On a winding road, you immediately understand why these cars have built such a loyal following. This example was restored several years ago by Alfisti. The color is Prugna, perhaps one of the most beautiful shades for a Giulia from this period. That deep plum tone gives the car warmth and character without becoming excessive. Combined with the gray cloth upholstery, it creates exactly the right 1970s atmosphere. Step inside and you are essentially back in 1975. And then, of course, there is Signora Angela De Pascalis. According to the story, in 1975 she was the fastest secretary on the winding roads around Sellano in Umbria, behind the wheel of her Giulia. We cannot verify that, but frankly, we do not really want to investigate it too thoroughly either. Some stories are simply better when you let them live. Besides, anyone who has ever driven a good Giulia along an Italian mountain road knows it does not sound all that unlikely. The car is in very well-cared-for condition and clearly shows that the restoration was carried out with love and knowledge. The details are right, the overall appearance is beautiful, and the entire car radiates exactly the charm that makes a classic Alfa Romeo so appealing. This is a Giulia that invites you to drive. A 1975 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Nuova Super, finished in Prugna with gray cloth upholstery. Restored by Alfisti, built with the correct parts, and endowed with that pure Alfa character you simply cannot recreate. A car with which to travel back to 1975, preferably on a winding road.
