The seller offers for sale this 1961 Daimler SP250, commonly known as the Dart. This V8-powered British roadster was originally delivered to the USA and has been in the Netherlands since 1995. It comes with a Heritage Trust certificate (record 75753) confirming its authenticity. The car retains its original 2.5L V8 engine, paired with a manual transmission.

The bodywork is in good condition, with recent localised resprays to maintain its appearance. The car is finished in its original colour, and while some minor imperfections such as small dents or scratches may be found, it presents itself well.

Inside, the Dart features a recently renewed interior, including seats, trim, and carpets. The soft top, tonneau cover, and hood bag have also been replaced, ensuring a fresh and well-maintained look. All components are intact, and no replacements are necessary.

Mechanically, the car has been well maintained. The vehicle is equipped with an upgraded electrical power steering system, installed in December 2024, for improved drivability. A full wiring harness replacement was carried out four years ago.

The Daimler Dart, produced from 1959 to 1964, was the brand’s attempt at a high-performance sports car, competing with the Triumph TR3 and Austin-Healey 3000. It was notable for its innovative lightweight fiberglass body and the advanced 2.5L V8 engine, which was among the smallest production V8s of its time. The car’s performance and handling were well received, although its unusual styling was polarizing. Daimler produced approximately 2,654 units before discontinuing the model in 1964 when Jaguar took control of the company. Despite its relatively short production run, the SP250 gained a dedicated following, particularly for its engine’s smooth power delivery and distinctive sound.

One of the Dart’s key advantages was its fiberglass construction, which prevented rust – a common issue with classic British sports cars. However, early models suffered from chassis flex, prompting Daimler to reinforce later variants. The car’s appeal lies in its rarity, engaging driving experience, and unique position in Daimler’s history. Today, well-maintained examples are sought after by collectors, with modifications like power steering making them more user-friendly for modern driving.
