*Volvo P1800E Coupe – Fuel Injection – Stålblå – Restored*
Did you know the Volvo P1800 originally started as a surprisingly ambitious project for a brand best known for safety and durability? Volvo was traditionally associated with solid sedans and practical wagons. The P1800, however, is something entirely different: low, elegant, and styled with clear international influence. A true departure from the expected, and today one of the most recognizable classic Volvo models.

The story begins in the late 1950s, when Volvo decided there was room for something more expressive alongside its existing lineup. Helmer Petterson, a name closely associated with Volvo’s earlier successes, played a key role in the development. The first prototypes were designed in Italy by Carrozzeria Frua, which explains the car’s distinctive and timeless proportions.

Initial production took place at Jensen in the United Kingdom before manufacturing moved to Sweden, where the model was further refined into the version you see here. By the end of the 1960s, the Volvo P1800 received a significant technical update. Engine capacity increased to 2.0 liters, and fuel injection was introduced. From that moment on, the model was known as the Volvo P1800E.

This example is exactly that: a Volvo P1800E equipped with the 2.0-liter fuel-injected four-cylinder engine, producing approximately 120 horsepower. For its time, this provided more than adequate performance and still allows for relaxed and enjoyable driving today. Combined with the overdrive, the car is particularly well suited for longer journeys, keeping engine speeds low and comfort high.

What immediately stands out about this particular Volvo P1800E is the way it has been restored. Not over-restored, but carried out with clear respect for originality. Weld points remain visible where they should be, reflecting an honest and carefully executed restoration focused on preserving authentic details.

The color combination further enhances its appeal. Finished in Stålblå, a period-correct and highly attractive shade, paired with a black leather interior, this P1800E presents exactly as it would have when originally delivered. A timeless specification that suits the car perfectly.

In addition, this example has been subtly upgraded with electric power steering. Discreetly integrated, it improves usability—especially at lower speeds—without compromising the original driving character.
What you are looking at is a Volvo P1800E exactly as it should be: correct in its specification, restored with attention to detail, and maintaining the integrity of a true classic. A highly usable classic car, but also an increasingly sought-after collector’s item.
