Descrizione

Some cars need no introduction. This 1971 Citroën ID19 is one of them. Originally delivered new in Poitiers, France—and decades later fully restored there by a Citroën specialist—the circle is complete, one might say. The beauty of it? You now get to open a new chapter.

The color is called Beige Albatros. C’est écru, as the previous owner would say. Slightly more refined than cream, calmer than white, and perfectly matched to the soft, flowing lines of this ID. This is not a DS filled with gadgets, but a DSpecial—the purist’s choice. Fewer frills, yet brimming with the unmistakable, unconventional charm Citroën mastered so well. And technically, it remains a small miracle on wheels.

The hydropneumatic suspension functions exactly as it should. You step in, turn the key, and slowly the car rises. As if it needs a moment to wake up—and after 50 years, that seems only fair. Then comes the driving. Or rather, the gliding. Because even freshly laid asphalt suddenly feels coarse once you step back into a modern car. The suspension does everything it’s meant to do, but in a distinctly French way: with elegance, flair, and no sense of urgency.

The interior is tidy and correct, exactly as you would expect from a well-kept DSpecial. The original owner’s manuals are still present, neatly stored in their plastic folder—also from Poitiers. And there’s that unmistakable scent that only classic French cars seem to have. Enthusiasts will know exactly what we mean.

Under the hood sits a 1,911 cc four-cylinder engine with just enough power to comfortably keep up with modern traffic. And that’s perfectly fine. This Citroën was never meant to be hurried. You drive differently in a car like this—more patiently, but also more attentively. You take roads you would normally ignore, and suddenly you notice things along the way that would otherwise pass you by.

The restoration has been carried out with great care and respect for originality. The body panels align nicely, the paint is even and carries a beautiful gloss. Everything suggests that this ID spent many years as part of a private collection—a small museum, perhaps, but one where the cars were still driven from time to time. Exactly as it should be.

Some cars are bought with the head. And then there are cars like this—bought because after the first drive, you simply don’t want to get out. Because the turn signal ticks as if it’s still 1971. Because after parking, the car slowly settles down again, gently urging you to take it back out.

A car doesn’t have to be fast to be impressive. It doesn’t even need to say “DS” on the registration. A well-restored, properly maintained ID from Poitiers, ready to create new memories—that’s sometimes all you need.
