The MG A is typical of the English sports car: affordable, light and a joy to drive. As a result, it is one of the best-selling English sports cars of the era. This example is beautifully executed: 'old English white' paint, a dark red interior and the distinctive classic chrome wire wheels. The car started life in the United States and is therefore left-hand drive. Thanks to the sunny Californian climate, the car has always remained rust-free. In 1996, the car was shipped to the Netherlands and then extensively body-off restored. In 2005, the car was registered on Dutch registration plates and has been owned by the same owner, a lover of English cars, ever since. Various maintenance work was recently carried out, such as installing a new fuel tank, new cooling hoses and two new rear tyres. The chrome work is in fine condition. The workshop manual is present with the car, as is documentation from the United States, photos and maintenance invoices. The MG is fitted with a soft top and has attachable side windows, side windshields, a spare wheel and a luggage rack.

General information about the MG A:
The MG A is one of MG's first new post-war sports cars. In 1955, the MG A was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a replacement for the pre-war MG TF Midget. It was completely different and modern from previous models.
The design of the MGA dates back to 1951 when MG designer Syd Enever designed a streamlined body for George Philips' MG TD to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The problem with the TD was the driver's high seating position. Indeed, the TF's narrow chassis did not allow for a deeper seat. A new chassis was designed where the floor was attached to the underside of the frame, allowing for a more aerodynamic design. The idea was initially rejected by Leonard Lord, CEO of BMC, who had signed a deal to build the new Austin-Healeys. When sales of traditional MG models fell sharply, it was decided to produce the MG A.
The name was chosen because this car was to introduce a new line of sports cars.
