Did you know that the designers of the second-generation SLK (the R171) took inspiration from early-2000s Formula 1? Sounds far-fetched? The abbreviation SLK stands for Sportlich, Leicht, Kurz (Sporty, Light, Short). In 2004, this model replaced the R170, and it was an immediate success.
