The E-Type Series 3 was introduced in 1971 as the final evolution of the E-Type. To accommodate the 5.3-liter V12, Jaguar used the longer wheelbase of the earlier 2+2 model. The track was widened as well, the wheel arches became more pronounced, and the front end gained its distinctive mesh-pattern grille.

The elegant sports car of 1961 had matured, but it had certainly not become dull. Beneath the long hood lies Jaguar’s V12. It is an engine that never needs to deliver its power in a hurry, nor does it feel compelled to prove its sporting credentials at every engine speed. Release the clutch, apply the throttle, and you immediately sense how much power is available. And then there is the manual transmission.

Many Series 3 E-Types were supplied with an automatic transmission, which suited the more relaxed character of the V12 perfectly. This example, however, combines the twelve-cylinder engine with a manual gearbox. That is something we find genuinely exciting. You not only enjoy the smooth, effortless nature of the large engine, but also retain full control over when to let it stretch its legs. And speaking of sound: did you know that a V12 with a freer-flowing exhaust system can sound almost intimidatingly good? Not restrained or discreet, but deep, rich, and full-bodied.

This example dates from 1973 and is finished in Sable, paired with a brown leather interior. It is a warm, unmistakably 1970s color combination that complements the broader, more mature appearance of the Series 3 beautifully. The Jaguar is presented in well-cared-for, original condition. Certain areas of the body still retain their factory paint, and this E-Type has not been restored to such an extent that all traces of its history have disappeared. We think that is wonderful. Not every classic car needs to look as though it left the factory yesterday. Sometimes, the most appealing cars are those that still reveal the lightest signs of a life well lived.

The most recent owner kept the E-Type for more than twenty years. Throughout that period, the car was carefully maintained by specialists. The result is a fine-driving E-Type with exactly the right presence. The Series 3 is larger and more comfortable than its predecessors, but with a manual gearbox and twelve cylinders, it remains above all an exceptionally enjoyable automobile.
