Descrizione

Green on the outside. Green on the inside. This 1976 Mercedes-Benz 280 SLC is finished in Cypress Green, complemented by a green leather interior. No safe combination such as silver over black leather, nor a color scheme intended to appeal to everyone. This was a deliberate choice. And, quite honestly, it suits the car perfectly.

The SLC was introduced as the closed coupé counterpart to the well-known SL Roadster. At first glance, the two models appear closely related, but Mercedes-Benz did considerably more than simply add a fixed roof to the SL. The wheelbase was extended by 36 centimeters, creating genuine space for rear passengers. Not a pair of token seats, but a proper rear bench that transformed the SLC into a true four-seat grand tourer—an automobile designed for covering long distances in comfort.

The SLC also occupied a unique position within the Mercedes-Benz model range. It was the first and only time the marque developed a large luxury coupé based on an extended SL platform. From both a technical and historical perspective, that makes the SLC a remarkably distinctive automobile.

Its long doors, expansive side windows, and the signature louvers beside the rear window give the SLC an instantly recognizable profile. Those louvers were not merely a styling flourish; they also served to integrate the large rear side glass elegantly into the body design.

Under the hood sits Mercedes-Benz’s renowned 2.8-liter inline-six. It is not an engine that demands attention with noise, but rather a refined and effortlessly smooth powerplant that perfectly suits the character of the SLC. Calm, strong, and built to cover mile after mile. You settle into the driver’s seat, close the long door, and quickly realize that everything revolves around comfort, stability, and the kind of composure that only a Mercedes-Benz can deliver.

This particular example was originally delivered in Germany and is accompanied by carefully documented history. The records show that the SLC was restored while preserving its original details, exactly the way we like to see it. As a result, the Mercedes presents in exceptionally well-maintained condition and is offered complete with its original owner's manuals. The exterior paintwork has a beautiful finish with an excellent gloss. The body panel fit is precise, and the correct factory wheels are in excellent condition. Inside, the cabin is equally well presented, retaining all the proper details.

A 1976 Mercedes-Benz 280 SLC finished in Cypress Green with a green leather interior, originally delivered in Germany and carefully restored to its original specifications. Entirely green. Entirely seventies. We have to admit—we absolutely love it. Take another look at the photographs, and you will probably understand exactly why. Interested? Contact Gallery Aaldering today.
