Porsche 356A (T2) 1600 Super Cabriolet 1958 – Black, stylish and with a story

There are cars you own. And there are cars that become part of your life’s journey. This black 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet clearly belongs to the latter. An icon from Porsche’s early years, adored for its pure lines, refined handling and unmistakable charm.

This particular car, chassis number 150829, carries a remarkable history. Originally delivered new to importer Hoffman USA, it later travelled to South Africa where it was owned first by a doctor, then by renowned Protour organiser Dick Vlietman. In 1979 it returned to Europe, to the Netherlands, where Porsche dealer and 356 Club founder Hans Dielen passed it on to the current family. Since 1982, it has been cherished, driven and twice fully restored: first in 1982, and then extensively between 2007 and 2011.

The latest restoration, carried out by Franky’s Porsche Service in Bergeijk (later Classics Works/Speedco), took four years and nearly €120,000. The result is a 356A Cabriolet restored to the finest detail, using as many original parts as possible. Only the engine and gearbox are non-matching, though both were fully rebuilt. The original chrome was renewed, the instruments carefully restored, and the 616/12 engine – producing 75bhp – fitted with Solex carburettors. Even the five wheels, dated 5/58, were restored and preserved.

Since that restoration, the car has covered only about 28,300 km. Everything breathes the care lavished upon this special classic. Above all, it drives superbly – taut, light-footed and engaging, exactly as a 356A should – accompanied by the unmistakable air-cooled soundtrack that makes every drive an occasion.

Included is a full dossier: the original Porsche birth certificate, an extensive photographic record of the restoration, and invoices dating back to 1990.

The Porsche 356A is more than a classic – it is a style icon, a collector’s prize and an emotional investment. This example also tells a personal story: present at a wedding, part of a family history, and always maintained with passion.

After 43 years, the owners are reluctantly parting with their beloved car. For the next custodian, this means not just acquiring a superb 356A Cabriolet, but also inheriting a piece of history, passed on with love and care.

Discover the new, extensive photo gallery and experience the exceptional condition, beauty and driving pleasure of this timeless Porsche – ideally during a test drive that will convince you of its unique character.
